If you’re not satisfied with your HEF scholarship band placement, you have the option to appeal.
Here’s how you can go about the process:
First, you’ll need to access the Higher Education Financing (HEF) portal. This is your gateway to initiating the appeal process.
Once you’ve logged in, you’ll find that the HEF portal has provisioned for online scholarship appeals.
This means you can handle the entire process digitally, making it more convenient for you.
When you’re ready to start your appeal, follow these steps:
- First, check your band to see if an appeal is waranted
- Log into the HEF portal
- Look for the “Fund Appeal” module or a similar option on the left sidebar
- Click on the Open option to start a new appeal
- You will be redirected to an online form
- Fill out the necessary information, providing evidence to support your case
- Submit your appeal through the portal
Over 12,000 students have already submitted their appeals.
It’s crucial to note that an appeal is specifically meant to increase the amount of scholarship you’re receiving.
So, before you begin, make sure you have a strong case for why you believe you should be placed in a different band.
What next?
The steps that follow are not clear, but it appears that if HEF is considering your appeal, you will receive an appeal form that should be filled by an assistant chief in your locality.
The form looks somethin like this:
You should then be able to drop the duly-filled form at the subcounty education office before proceeding to report at your institution.
You will be able to hear from HEF about the results of your appeal in a few weeks.
Remember, timing is important. The appeals process is not always open, so you’ll need to keep an eye out for announcements.
As of August 2024, the funds appeal process was still ongoing, but this may change, so it’s best to act promptly when the opportunity arises.
When filling out your appeal, be sure to provide all necessary evidence to support your case.
This could include financial documents, academic records, or any other relevant information that strengthens your argument for a different band placement.
Keep in mind that the appeal process is thorough, and decisions are made based on the evidence provided.
Be patient after submitting your appeal, as it may take upto three weeks for a decision to be made.
In the meantime, continue with your studies and financial planning based on your current band placement.
