Cash App, developed by Square, Inc., is widely acclaimed in regions like the United States and the United Kingdom for its user-friendly interface and versatile financial services.
Despite its growing popularity worldwide, Cash App is not available in other countries, even Canada.
Can you use Cash App in Kenya?
Unfortunately, you cannot use Cash App directly in Kenya. Here’s why:
- Location Restrictions: Cash App is currently only operational in the United States and the United Kingdom.
However, there’s an indirect way to receive money from Cash App users in Kenya:
a) IntaSend
IntaSend is a money transfer service that acts as a bridge between Cash App and Kenya. Here’s how it works:
- The Cash App user in the US/UK sends you money via the “Pay with Bitcoin” option on IntaSend.
- IntaSend converts the funds to Kenyan Shillings (KES).
- The KES is then deposited into your IntaSend account from where you can withdraw it to M-Pesa or your preferred method.
b) Bitnob (Enables Cash App to M-pesa
Bitnob is another service that allows you to receive money from Cash App users.
Here’s how:
- You create a Bitnob account and link your M-Pesa details.
- The Cash App user purchases Bitcoin using Cash App and sends it to your Bitnob wallet.
- Bitnob converts the Bitcoin to KES and sends it to your M-Pesa account.
These two services are NOT the most convenient way of receiving money from abroad. Users have also claimed to be charged high fees. Thus, you may want to consider Cash App alternatives such as Payoneer and PayPal which work well in Kenya.
