What you need to know about MTN Data Gifting
- Always ensure you have enough data balance before attempting to share.
- You can only share from the plan with the latest validity. Say you have daily and weekly plans, and you just purchased an additional monthly plan. In this case, you can only share from the Monthly plan. So you may want to first share before buying another plan, incase you have data plans that are about to expire.
- Data expiration date remains the same even after sharing data. If you have a data plan that expires in 3 days, after sharing with a friend, they will only be able to use it for the next 3 days.
- MTN doesn’t require you to enter your PIN to use the data sharing service
- You can only transfer specific set amounts every time. At the time, these are:
- 50 MBs (This is the minimum data amount you can share with MTN at a time)
- 100 MBs
- 200 MBs
- 500 MBs
- 1 GBs
- 2 GBs
- 3 GBs
- 5 GBs (Maximum you can share with MTN at a time)
- In case you have plans that cumulatively add up to 50 MB and above, but NOT on their own, you cannot combine them to enable a data transfer. So, if you have 40 MB weekly bundle, and 30 MB monthly bundle, it’s not possible to share data since none reaches the minimum share threshold of 50 MBs.
- You can make several data transfers a day, but the maximum cumulative transfer amount is 5 GB. So if you transfer 3GB, you can still transfer anywhere between 50 MBs and 2 GB that day. Howevever, if you make one transfer of 5GB, you reach the maximum amount allowed per day, and you will need to wait for 24 hours before you can make another MTN data transfer.
2) Buy Data for a Friend
Instead of sharing data from your existing plans, you can opt to buy a specific bundle. The cost will be deducted from your airtime balance.
Dial *312*Bundle Activation Code*Beneficiary’s Phone number#
You can also follow the steps below:
- Ensure you are dialing with your MTN line
- Dial *321# on your phone.
- Select Gift Data
- Choose Choose Buy for a Friend Option
- Enter Recipients Number
- Select the amount of data to buy
- Review the purchase amount and phone number
- Select Proceed to finish the purchase.
3) Request Data from a Friend
Incase you are the one who needs data, you can use this option. To access this service, simply follow this step:
Dial *312*7*3#
