Nairobi, Kenya — Google has opened applications for its 2024 Hustle Academy cohort, inviting small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) from Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa to participate.
This year’s program marks a significant enhancement with the introduction of AI-focused modules aimed at boosting productivity and marketing efforts for African entrepreneurs.
The Hustle Academy, which has supported over 10,000 businesses since its launch in 2022, provides comprehensive business education, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
The integration of AI into the curriculum is set to revolutionize the way businesses operate, offering new tools and strategies to optimize operations and drive growth.
“AI holds immense potential for African SMBs, enabling them to drive innovation, increase efficiency, and unlock new levels of economic growth,” said Kristy Grant, Head of B2B Marketing for Sub-Saharan Africa at Google.
Program overview

- Day 2: Sales & E-Commerce – Focuses on revenue goals, audience understanding, market trends, and e-commerce opportunities.

The new AI modules will focus on teaching participants how to leverage AI for data-driven decision-making, optimizing business processes, and enhancing digital marketing strategies.
The academy’s impact has been substantial, with over 5,000 graduates joining the alumni network last year alone.
According to recent impact reports, participants who received grants nearly doubled their success rate in accessing new funding sources beyond friends and family, increasing from 11% to 20%.
The 2024 cohort aims to build on this success, offering African entrepreneurs the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in a competitive market. Applications are open now, and the program will run through the end of the year.
